Case Study · Boomtown | First Marketing Hire
Established positioning, product marketing, demand generation, sales enablement, partner marketing, website/content, reporting, and operating cadence.
Boomtown was a Series A customer-experience technology company (later acquired by OvationCXM) with early traction and no marketing function. I joined as the first marketing hire, reporting to the executive team.
The company had product-market signal but no GTM foundation: no positioning, no demand engine, no sales enablement, and no repeatable way to turn interest into revenue.
Everything marketing touched — positioning, product marketing, demand generation, sales enablement, partner marketing, website and content, and the reporting cadence that connected marketing activity to revenue. Sales execution belonged to the sales team; the system they ran on was mine to build.
A complete 0→1 GTM engine: category positioning and sales narratives, demand generation programs, partner plays and a partner marketing motion, customer-facing content, account-specific programs, and the operating cadence that kept marketing, sales, and partnerships moving as one system.
Player-coach as first marketing hire — hands-on execution while building the team, processes, and operating rhythm; aligned Sales, Partnerships, and executive leadership through acquisition by OvationCXM.
Testimonial from Michael Haste (Boomtown) on this site describes the player-to-coach transition and 9x revenue growth this foundation drove.
